Features of crystallization of the eutectic alloy in the gallium-indium system
Annotation: The method of cyclic thermal analysis was used to study the effect of overheating of the melt of the eutectic alloy Ga + 14.2 mol% In on the value of precrystallization supercooling on samples weighing 2 g. It has been established that when superheating a liquid eutectic is higher than the eutectic temperature TE = 288.3 K and subsequent cooling, the dependence of supercooling from overheating has a monotonically increasing character. The limiting value of supercooling is 25 K after preliminary heating of the melt to 400 K. It has been established that crystallization from a supercooled state was always “explosive” at a rate of ≈40-45 K / s. In this case, neither the cooling rate from 0.01 to 10 K / s nor the long-term (for several hours) isothermal exposure of the melt in superheated and supercooled conditions affected the magnitude of supercooling.
