Annotation: A modern man receives most of the annual dose of radiation from radon and radon progeny in residential and office buildings, whereby the problem of household radiation exposure is typical as to traditionally hazardous regions (Altai, the North Caucasus) and plain low-hazardous areas. The paper presents the results of study of the consistent patterns of the radon environment formation in buildings with long tern occupancy. The obtained data allows to claim that the buried part of the building has a decisive influence on the volume of radon coming from the earth, and the radiation safety of the building can be ensured by the rational design of underground building envelopes.
