Restoration of Budennovskaya hospital’s emergency buildings after the terrorist attack of 995

Annotation: In 1995, the first and largest ever terrorist attack took place in Russia. On central regional hospital’s territory in Budennovsk city, Stavropol region, the militants took 1,500 hostages, 146 of them were killed and more than 500 people were wounded. In the process of hostilities, Russian special forces used artillery. Water-carrying communications were destroyed, and deformations of all buildings built on collapsible soils of type II occurred. The best design and construction firms in Moscow were involved in the restoration of the damaged buildings. The customer was identified as "Moskapstroy", the general contractor "Mosspetspromstroy", the general designer of the Moscow Research and Design Institute of Culture, Recreation, Sports and Healthcare Facilities Surveys, examination of foundations and strengthening of subsiding soils in the foundations of damaged buildings were carried out under the guidance of prof. B.F. Galaya. The foundations emergency buildings were reinforced with bored soil and concrete piles made according to a new patented technology under an agreement with the Moscow Government. Long-term operation of buildings has confirmed the correctness of the decisions made.
