Annotation: The design of road asphalt concrete using the “Superpave” method is carried out in several stages: the required grade of organic binder is calculated based on the design temperatures (maximum and minimum) of the road climatic zone, based on the softening and brittleness temperatures; depending on the number of uniaxial loads (UNL), the technical category of the road is determined with the number of ULL from 0.3 to 30 million units. for 20 years; mineral materials are selected and the mineral core of asphalt concrete is designed; samples of the asphalt concrete mixture are prepared at a binder temperature corresponding to a viscosity of 0.17 Pa∙sec in a laboratory mixer; the mixture is thermostated at compaction temperature for 120 minutes; compact the samples at a temperature corresponding to the viscosity of the organic binder of 0.28 Pa∙sec on a rotary compactor (gyrator, which simulates the operation of a skating rink); using samples, the volumetric properties of the designed composition of road asphalt concrete are determined (content of air voids, number of voids in the mineral filler); adjust the content of organic binder; select the optimal content of organic binder; determine the quality indicators of the designed asphalt concrete: resistance to rutting, water resistance, fatigue life, ability to withstand low-temperature deformations.
